An original CFB production, 9/11 An American Moment was created in 2006 as a tribute to the victims of 9/11 and to the first responders, armed forces, fire fighters, and law enforcement officers who risk their lives daily to protect our country. The performance captures the poignancy of tested and proven American courage, resolve and pride in response to the World Trade Center attack.

Central Florida Ballet chose to approach this complex subject motivated by two strong reasons: first to educate; and second to pay tribute to the thousands of victims. The performance is emotionally stirring. Some scenes contain live recordings of the events that unfolded that fateful morning. The end, however, is both patriotic and uplifting. Our national anthem is played and the audience rises and sings in unison with the performers.

The U.S. House of Representatives recognized the Central Florida Ballet for creating this original production in 2008 as “the only company in the nation to have choreographed a ballet based on this fateful day in American history”.

Taking a hint from local theme parks, Central Florida Ballet merged the Nutcracker fairytale with a touch of Cirque and a glimmer of pyrotechnics creating an unforgettable experience. CFB’s production was recognized as ‘one of the top five productions in the nation’ by CNN Headlines News and has become known to many as the “pyrotechnic Nutcracker” thanks to its coverage in USA Today. National coverage has also been provided by ABC News, Wall Street Journal, and the Southeast Tourism Society.

The Ugly Duckling and Yes, Virginia! Another Piano Ballet

The Ugly Duckling tells the story of a little duckling born into a farmyard where she is bullied and teased because her appearance is very different from the others. The Ugly Duckling embarks on a journey to be accepted, trying to fit in wherever she goes.

Yes, Virginia! Another Piano Ballet is a light-hearted piece that pokes fun of 1970’s era ballets that were accompanied by live piano. Originally choreographed by Peter Anastos, founder of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, this piece parodies a series of ballets choreographed by Jerome Robbins. These selections bring a young, fresh and avant garde perspective to the Central Florida Ballet.
